Exodus 14:13 — “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord…”
There are moments in life when everything in us wants to run, react, defend, or fix the problem with our own hands. When the pressure is high and the way forward looks blocked, standing still feels like failure. But in God’s Kingdom, standing still is not a sign of defeat—it’s a posture of faith.
Sometimes God works best when we stop moving.
When Forward Seems Impossible
Imagine the Israelites at the Red Sea.
Water in front of them.
Pharaoh behind them.
Fear swelling within them.
They had no logical escape route—no backup plan, no strategy. What God told them next is the same thing He tells us when we reach the end of our strength:
“Stand still and see what I’m about to do.”
God wasn’t asking them to be passive. He was asking them to shift from self-reliance to divine dependence. Standing still is not inactivity—it’s intentional trust. It is the moment when we step aside so God can step in.
Standing Still Means…
1. Letting God Fight Battles You Can’t Win
Some battles aren’t meant for your energy, your creativity, or your negotiation skills.
They are meant for God’s power.
The Red Sea miracle teaches us that God handles what we cannot—and He handles it better than we ever could.
2. Coming Out of Panic and Into Peace
Our emotions move fast. God moves faithfully.
Standing still shifts your focus from “What am I going to do?” to “Lord, what are You about to do?”
Your spirit rests when your eyes are on Him instead of on the problem.
3. Making Room for the Miracle
Every miracle in Scripture has a moment where the human hands stop and the divine hands begin.
- Elijah said: “Stand still.”
- Jehoshaphat said: “You will not need to fight in this battle.”
- Jesus said: “Only believe.”
When we stand still, we position ourselves to see God’s salvation unfold in ways we never imagined.
When You Want to Move—Remember This
Standing still does not mean doing nothing spiritually. It means:
- Still your mind.
- Still your fears.
- Still your assumptions.
- Still your desire to control the outcome.
God says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Stillness allows revelation to rise.
Stillness positions your ears to hear divine instructions.
Stillness lifts your faith to expect the impossible.
The Salvation of the Lord Will Show Up
God didn’t move the Red Sea until His people trusted His word.
He didn’t silence Pharaoh’s army until Israel stood still.
And He isn’t waiting on your strength—He’s waiting on your surrender.
His salvation will not be late.
His deliverance will not be weak.
His timing will not be wrong.
Even when it looks like you are surrounded, God is actually surrounding what surrounds you.
A Personal Word for You Today
God knows where you are and what is pressing against you.
He sees the deadlines, the pressure, the fear, the questions, and the unknowns you’re facing.
But hear this:
You don’t have to push your way out—God is pulling you through.
You don’t have to fight every battle—God is fighting for you.
You don’t have to find a way—God is about to make one.
Stand still.
Breathe.
Rest.
Watch.
The salvation of the Lord is on the way.
Life Application
- What situation are you trying to fix that you need to surrender to God?
- Where do you feel trapped between your “Red Sea” and “Pharaoh”?
- What would it look like today to shift from anxiety to trust?
Write it down. Pray over it. Release it.
Then watch God make a way where there was no way.
Closing Prayer
Lord, teach me to stand still when my heart wants to panic.
Help me trust Your timing, Your plan, and Your wisdom.
Fight the battles I cannot fight, and reveal Your salvation in my life.
Make a way where there seems to be no way, and let Your glory be seen in my stillness.
In Jesus’ name—Amen.
